Welcome to Discovery Primary School, home of the youngest students in the Fife School District. We provide rich educational programs for approximately 630 kindergarten, and first grade, and special students. It is our mission to provide our students with the academic, social and physical skills that will be the building blocks they will use throughout their lives. Our staff is committed to designing learning experiences that will engage students in their work, while providing an environment where all children feel safe and happy. We encourage students to do their best and we celebrate their growth. When you come to Discovery Primary you will find a school that welcomes visitors warmly and openly. Parents are frequent participants in our programs and contribute many hours of their time and energy to support students and teachers.
We welcome parent volunteers at our school. The more help we get means the more attention our students have. This year we are starting our very own PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). I highly encourage you to join the PTO group. You can become a member simply by signing up. Information about meetings times will be sent home in school and classroom newsletters.
One of the benefits of having a primary school is we have the opportunity to build all of our programs to fit the unique developmental needs of young children. In addition to the regular classroom instruction, students attend classes in movement, SKIP, connections, and library. In movement classes students work on gross motor skills through dance, music, and physical activity. During their time in SKIP (Social, Kinesthetic, Interactive, Play) students freely choose from a variety of activities designed to help them build their fine motor and social skills). Students have the opportunity to experience books and stories in a variety of fun and developmentally appropriate ways during their time in the library or “The Den” as it is called at Discovery. During Connections class students will learn about community and school events.
We offer special education programs starting at the age of three for students who need specially designed instruction. If you think your child may have a delay in one or more developmental area, please call the school and we can give you more information about our special education services. Independently operated day care programs are available for families needing those services before and after school hours. We look forward to partnering with you as we help your child to grow! If you have any questions do not hesitate to call me at 253-517-1200. I can also be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.With warm regards,
